Wondering how to start a prayer journal? Well, here are 18 simple prayer journal ideas for women that will help guide you to be successful in life through manifestation. And don’t forget to grab your free prayer journal template and prompts.
Prayer journal for women
If you really want to be a successful woman in life, you have to start speaking your thoughts, desires, beliefs, and ideas into existence through prayer journaling. And yep, this is what is called manifestation. I know, you may think “how creepy,” or “that’s what my Grandma used to say.” I get it, nobody uses the word manifestation in this era LOL!
But, hear me out, in this thing called life, it is so hard to do it all alone, especially if you’re starting from rock bottom. In some way, at whatever stage of life, you’re in, you need God to take you through your daily life. You need an affirmation that a higher power has your back.
Through good and tough times, as a woman, it is important to be in constant communication with God through prayer. I don’t care about how much money you may have, but to be your most successful self, you need to pray for good health, relationships, your family, abundance, blessings, kids, etc.
What inspired me to start a prayer journal?
Believe it or not manifestation through faith works. For example, my sister and I always dreamt of moving to America since we were like 5 years of age. Blame it on all the American tv shows that we watched every day. Anyway, a decade later, we miraculously won the green card, which is another good story for another day.
But let me tell you the truth, us moving to America would have not happened if it wasn’t for the long hour sessions of talking about our imaginary American lifestyle. Or if it wasn’t for the let’s pretend we’re in an American middle school attending class. Or let’s talk about our American boyfriends.
Well, all I am saying is that all this may have come to happen because of our unlimited child-like faith.
However, a few years later, my mom revealed an old notebook she has kept since high school, where she wrote down a dream of her moving to America, long before we were born. OMG! all along my mom was the OG of making this American dream happen, haha! Hindsight, she had been praying for her dreams, desires, thoughts through that notebook for years.
And that’s when I knew I had to start my own prayer journal ASAP. If that’s you too, keep on reading my good friend. We are about to get started!
What is a prayer journal?
A prayer journal is an amazing platform to document and record all your hopes, desires, and blessings throughout life. Prayer journaling can either be in writing, doodling, drawing, coloring, painting, etc. Whatever speaks to you deep down.
Moreover, prayer journaling is a special way to be intentional and real in communicating with God directly about what you’re going through in every season of your life.
Therefore, if you want to be your most successful self, then it is important to start documenting your journey now.
What is the purpose of a prayer journal?
There is a ton of benefits of writing down your prayers in a journal. Here are the 5 main purposes of a prayer journal.
1. Finding focus, clarity & direction in your life
The first purpose of a prayer journal is to help you find focus and clarity with the goals that you set for yourself. When you start a prayer journal, it will make you look at your life with a close lens. You will have to dig deep down in your soul to figure out how to become the best version of yourself. Like what you really want God to do in your life today, tomorrow, and in the future.
Therefore, by asking God for direction through prayer, you will be able to set SMART goals for yourself that are focused and aligned with God’s purpose for you.
Moreover, through a prayer journal, you will be able to declutter and simplify your life to focus more on what serves you and ditch what brings you down.
2. Manifesting your successful future self
Y’all! I am about to talk about manifestation once again. Sorry, I have to scream it louder for the people in the back who can’t hear me. The second purpose of having a prayer journal is to manifest your future successful self. If you don’t who will? JK!
To be a successful woman, you have to dream every day, envision your most successful self, and remind yourself of your purpose in this world. This is because truth to be told, it is not easy to go through the process of fulfilling a dream from ground zero.
However, with focus and clarity, your prayer journal will be able to document your journey to success through faith. This is manifestation. For example, when you write down your prayer to become a millionaire, and then it happens 5 years later. That’s a manifestation through faith.
3. Dealing directly with your deep emotions
As a woman chasing success, you will face a lot of negative emotions such as fear, doubt, embarrassment, insecurities, and failure. Of which, this is super NORMAL. And you may not feel comfortable oversharing with girlfriends, family, or social media. Or you may not afford therapy and maybe your significant other is tired of listening to you.
But that doesn’t mean you should deal with life alone because you can’t face your deep emotions. It gets crazy, sis!
Therefore, the third purpose of having a prayer journal is to deal directly with your emotions as a woman. Like just being able to tell God how it is. No sugar coating, no making it look glamorous, but just speaking your mind out.
Because guess what, He listens and doesn’t tell. And most of all, He understands what you are going through without judgment because He loves you.
4. Becoming confident in yourself
I don’t know about you, but I am always more confident in myself when I know that I have been praying for it. Therefore, the fourth benefit of having a prayer journal is becoming a confident woman in life.
When you know you have asked for something through prayer and faith, and you have a backup of evidence in your prayer journal, let me tell you, nothing can stop you.
This is because, you are just waiting for God’s timing, which is hands down the best. Therefore, when opportunities present themselves, you will confidently know what’s for you and what’s not for you.
Sis, nothing can give you more confidence as a woman, than knowing that God has your back through that prayer journaling communication going on with Him.
5. Having a positive outlook in life
Having a prayer journal is just not about asking God about what you want in life, but also being thankful for what He has already done and what He is going to do.
So, the fifth benefit of having a prayer journal is having a positive outlook on life. This is because of the daily page reminder that He has been faithful through it all in the past. Therefore, writing everything that you’re grateful for, or crossing off a checklist of things you have been praying for, will bring happiness and positivity to your life.
How to start a prayer journal
The most essential tip to starting a prayer journal is to create something that will evolve with you throughout life. Life is a journey, and you want to make sure that you are present with God through every growth, failure, and blessings.
So, here is an easy step-by-step process on how to start a prayer journal that speaks to you.
Step 1: Find your why?
Before you create a prayer journal, the first section is to find the reason why you are compelled to start one. This is because the dedication to journal and being in constant communication with God has to come from deep within you. Don’t just do it because people at church are doing it, or your friends, or your mom?
If you want to create a prayer journal that lasts forever, you have to find your reason why or simply your motivation.
- Is it because you’re tired of living unfulfilling lifestyle and you want to document your way out of it?
- Is it because you desire to have a private conversation with that one person who would listen to you?
- Or is it because you want to show your future kids and grand kids, what prayer has brought you through in life?
Whatever it is, just find your deep reason for starting a prayer journal.
Step 2: Find your best journaling platform
The second step on how to start a prayer journal is to find your best journaling platform. There are several other creative journaling platforms you have to be aware of. I promise you, it’s just not about writing your thoughts in an old boring book. But, if that’s your way, like me, then go for it haha!

Therefore, to maximize your prayer time, you can log in to an app for five minutes, go through the daily bible reading plans, write down the key bible verses, pray, and just meditate in God’s word for a few minutes before work.
Nevertheless, some prayer apps connect you with other like-minded women in the world and encourage you to pray for each other.
Here are some amazing prayer journal apps.

Step 3: Determine your prayer journal frequency
The third step is determining how often you would like to journal your prayer. Is it every 5 years, every year, every month, every week, or daily?
It doesn’t matter really how many times you pray a day, but with journaling one of the most important things you must maintain is a discipline of prayer.
According to my suggestion to help you be successful in life, I think you should prayer journal 3 things every year, every month, and every day.
This matches my concept of goal planning to achieve success. Journaling, as well as goal setting in this frequency, will simplify everything and make you be intentional with your prayer.
Yearly prayer journal
At the beginning of the year, look into your last year and see what worked, what you want to improve in, and what you’re hoping for.
Write down in your prayer journal, top three goals you’re asking God to help you achieve during the year.
Monthly prayer journal
At the beginning of the month, write down in your journal to-do lists of 3 things you’re praying for that month.
Daily prayer journal
Every day of the week, write down 3 daily prayers to God during your quiet time. It could be thanksgiving, requests, adoration, etc.
Or you can pray for a certain cause for however many consecutive days.
All in all, it is best to prayer journal on a daily basis to maintain focus and be ahead of any situation that may come your way.
Step 4: Just start journaling
Once you have your prayer journal ready and you have determined the frequency, now it’s time to just dive in. Let all your thoughts flow, and communicate with God without any limits. Just pour your heart out.
Nevertheless, remember to set daily reminders, and keep of track your prayer journal in your calendar.
And most of all, if you happen to skip a day or a week or a month, just give yourself grace for that season. This is because it allows you to accept yourself despite challenges and continue where you left off.
Step 5: Learn how to keep a prayer journal
This is the best part lol! For anyone who’s had any diary of sorts, (BTW I’m calling out most ladies, Haha!) we’ve always worried that someone will find it and read all our secrets. This is super me, I am sure I am not alone here.
Therefore, the best way for women to keep a prayer journal is to find a great place that is private and organized.
A great example was from the movie war room by Priscilla Shirer, where she created a nice prayer and journaling room in her closet to pray for her broken marriage.
So, if you have enough space, you can create a prayer journaling space in your home. Make it private, cozy, and organize it to meet your prayer needs. Whatever it is that will bring you closer to God. Moreover, find a way to put your prayer journal nicely away. Can you lock the room? or if it’s a shared space, maybe you can get a filing cabinet with a lock.
To be honest, I think it is essential to keep your prayer journal between you and God so that it doesn’t limit your prayers and thoughts.

Here are 18 prayer journal ideas that you would absolutely love.
1. Write down all your prayer requests and needs
Write down a list of things in your prayer journal that you would like God to bless you in your life. Think about all the prayer requests for your needs such as financial freedom, business success, lifestyle change, health issues, etc.
Also, be as specific as possible with your prayer requests.
2. Check off all the answered prayers
Take the time to check off all the prayers God has answered in your life. This is an easy way to see the miracles that you have experienced through God’s love.
Nevertheless, checking off all your blessings reminds you to continue being hopeful and positive in life because God answers prayers. Even though it may take days or years, He always comes through.
3. Record things that you’re grateful for
In your prayer journal, create gratitude lists of things that you’re blessed to already have. Is it your family, your kids, a job, successful business, friend?
It is essential to appreciate the little things you have in life, even at your lowest moment. 4. Write a letter to God
It is such a good idea to write a letter to God to pray deeply for a specific thing. Mostly, this is because a letter is personable and direct. Just let the spirit guide you. It could be a love letter to God, special thanksgiving, a specific need, a dream, something you’re hoping for, etc.
5. Record all your hopes, dreams, ideas and visions
This is one of my most favorite prayer journal ideas. Aaaah! if you’re such a dreamer, this is the time to be crazy and write down all the wildest dreams you can think of in your prayer journal. Heck! you can also go the extra mile and add vision board pictures from Pinterest.
A lot of times, when you tell regular people about your dreams and ideas, they tend to advise you by taking the “realistic approach.” However, this might be completely discouraging, thus, leading to fear and potentially killing your dream before you even start.
Therefore, as a woman of faith, if you want to be successful in life, sometimes it is important to move in silence. Not everyone needs to know your next move or your ideas.
Sometimes you just have to keep it between you and God. As a purpose-driven woman, it is a great way to journal your prayer to find alignment and speak life to your dreams.
6. Write down your 5-year goals
Writing down long-term goals that you would revisit every 5 years is such a great idea, as long as you don’t forget about it, haha! For example, ask questions, pray about it, and journal it in your lined notebook or any other form of a journal that you’re bound to keep for years.
- What do you wish to accomplish in 5 years?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Who do you see yourself with in 5 years?
And other questions that pertain to you.
7. Pray for others
As much as it is important to make the prayer journal all about you, it is also a great idea to extend your hand out and pray for others. This is a good way to give back to society. Some miracles happen in your life as well, because somebody else extended their hand to petition for you.
Therefore, you can create a prayer list for:
- Each of your family members (Mom, dad, brothers, sisters, etc.)
- Kids (or future kids)
- Circle (best friends)
- City and country
- A cause (racial discrimination, pandemic, poverty)
- Church community
8. Draw or doodle in your prayer journal
Even though you have a regular lined notebook, in one of your blank prayer journal pages, draw and doodle what you envision the best version of yourself to be.
It really doesn’t even matter if you are a great artist or not haha! But this practice will help you learn more about yourself. Draw your house, yourself, your car, family, doodle your kid’s names, draw your heart and what it’s in it, etc.
Just envision yourself at your most content, happiest form, and draw it.
9. Pray for the Holy Spirit guidance
Make it a point to pray in your journal for your spiritual life. Pray for the Holy Spirit to overcome any plans of the enemy in different ways, to influence your intuition when making decisions, and guide you in this walk of life on a spiritual level.
Also, practicing spiritual disciplines brings inner peace by helping you know what is meant for you and what is not meant for you.
10. Pray through scripture and bible journaling
One of the best prayer journal ideas is praying through your favorite scripture verses. The word of God was particularly written to be a guide on how to live your life.
Therefore, read bible passages, go through your bible study notes, and write what resonates with you in your prayer journal.
You could also join church groups for bible studies and bible journaling.
11. Write down your anger and frustrations
If you are experiencing a hard time in life, sometimes it is just difficult to be positive. Therefore, you can use your prayer journal to write down all your anger and frustrations and communicate to God how you are honestly feeling deep down.
Through being able to vent openly, you will slowly figure things out and find inner peace.
12. Journal through worship music
They usually say good things come through worship. And that’s definitely true. When you’re worship through music, you’re welcoming the presence of God in your vicinity.
Therefore, create a music playlist of Christian worship music that speaks to you, and start writing bullet points of what you’re feeling in the moment in your prayer journal.
My most favorite worship song that brings me close to God during prayer is “the Blessing” by Kari Jobes.
13. Join a prayer journal women community
One of the best prayer journal ideas is to find a women’s community such as bible studies, church groups, Facebook groups, prayer apps, girlfriends, etc.
The importance of prayer communities is being able to unite with like-minded women and grow with each other in every season of your life. And also, the power of prayer spreads to the entire surrounding community.
In addition, if you have a community of women’s prayer groups, you should find a new prayer journal to separate from your personal prayer journal.
14. Listen to a prayer podcast
Listening to a prayer podcast is such a good way to find guidance on important information to pray about. It is also a good method for girl bosses who don’t have enough time on their hands but still want to get closer to God and his purpose for them.
Therefore, you could listen to a prayer podcast as you drive to work or when you workout and then quickly start bullet journaling a few points in your notebook.
