1. Write down all your prayer requests and needs
Write down a list of things in your prayer journal that you would like God to bless you with. Think about all the prayer requests for your needs such as financial freedom, business success, lifestyle change, health issues, etc.
Also, be as specific as possible with your prayer requests and needs.
2. Check off all the answered prayers
Take the time to check off all the prayers God has answered in your life. This is an easy way to see the miracles that you have experienced through God’s love.
Nevertheless, checking off all your blessings reminds you to continue being hopeful and positive in life because God answers prayers. Even though it may take days or years, He always comes through.
3. Record things that you’re grateful for
In your prayer journal, create gratitude lists of things that you’re blessed to already have. Is it your family, your kids, a job, a successful business, friend?
It is essential to appreciate the little things you have in life, even at your lowest moment. Therefore, make it a routine to start your day by writing 3 things in the morning that you are thankful for in your gratitude journal or planner. I promise you, it changes the whole perspective of your day to be a lot more productive and optimistic.

4. Write a letter to God
It is such a good idea to write a letter to God to pray deeply for a specific thing. Mostly, this is because a letter is personable and direct. Just let the spirit guide you.
It could be a love letter to God, special thanksgiving, a specific need, a dream, something you’re hoping for, etc.
5. Record all your hopes, dreams, ideas, goals, and visions
This is one of my most favorite prayer journal ideas. Aaaah! if you’re such a dreamer, this is the time to be crazy and write down all the wildest dreams you can think of in your prayer journal. Heck! you can also go the extra mile and add vision board pictures from Pinterest.
A lot of times, when you tell regular people about your dreams and ideas, they tend to advise you by taking the “realistic approach.” However, this might be completely discouraging, thus, leading to fear and potentially killing your dream before you even start.
Therefore, as a woman of faith, if you want to be successful in life, sometimes it is important to move in silence. Not everyone needs to know your next move or your ideas.
Sometimes you just have to keep it between you and God. As a purpose-driven woman, it is a great way to journal your prayer to find alignment and speak life to your dreams.

6. Write down your New year goals and 5-year goals
Writing down your new year and long-term goals that you would revisit every 5 years is such a great idea, as long as you don’t forget about it, haha!
For example, ask yourself questions, pray about them, and journal it in your notebook or any other form of a journal that you’re bound to keep for years.
- What do you wish to accomplish this new year vs. in 5 years?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Who do you see yourself within 5 years?
And other questions that pertain to you. Here are 31 best January journal prompts for new year motivation.

7. Pray for others
As much as it is important to make the prayer journal all about you, it is also a great idea to extend your hand out and pray for others. This is a good way to give back to society. Some miracles happen in your life as well, because somebody else extended their hand to petition in prayer for you.
Therefore, you can create a prayer list for:
- Each of your family members (Mom, dad, brothers, sisters, etc.)
- Kids (or future kids)
- Circle (best friends)
- City and country
- A cause (racial discrimination, pandemic, poverty)
- Church Community
8. Draw or doodle in your prayer journal
Even though you may have a regular lined notebook, in one of your blank prayer journal pages, draw and doodle what you envision the best version of yourself to be.
It really doesn’t even matter if you are a great artist or not haha! But this practice will help you learn more about yourself. Draw your house, yourself, your car, your family, doodle your kid’s names, draw your heart, and what it’s in it, etc.
Just envision yourself in your most content, happiest form, and draw it.
9. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance
Make it a point to pray in your journal for your spiritual life. Practicing spiritual discipline brings inner peace and guides you to know what is meant for you and what is not meant for you. Therefore pray for the holy spirit to:
- Overcome any plans of the enemy.
- Influence your intuition when making decisions.
- Guide you in this walk of life on a spiritual level.

10. Pray through scripture and bible journaling
One of the best prayer journal ideas is praying through your favorite scripture verses. The word of God was particularly written to be a guide on how to live your life.
Therefore, read bible passages, go through your bible study notes, and write what resonates with you in your prayer journal.
You could also join church groups for bible studies and bible journaling.
11. Write down your anger and frustrations
If you are experiencing a hard time in life, sometimes it is just difficult to be positive. Therefore, you can use your prayer journal to write down all your anger and frustrations and communicate to God how you are honestly feeling deep down.
Through being able to vent openly, you will slowly figure things out and find inner peace.

12. Journal through worship music
Someone said good things come through worship. And they’re definitely right. When you’re worshiping through music, you’re welcoming the presence of God in your vicinity.
Therefore, create a music playlist of Christian worship music that speaks to you, and start writing bullet points of what you’re feeling in the moment in your prayer journal.
My most favorite worship song that brings me close to God during prayer is “the Blessing” by Kari Jobes.
13. Join a prayer journal women’s community
One of the best prayer journal ideas is to find a women’s community such as bible studies, church groups, Facebook groups, prayer apps, girlfriends, etc.
The importance of prayer communities is being able to unite with like-minded women and grow with each other in every season of your life. And also, the power of prayer spreads to the entire surrounding community.
In addition, if you have a community of women’s prayer groups, you should find a new prayer journal to separate from your personal prayer journal.
14. Listen to a prayer podcast
Listening to a prayer podcast is such a good way to find guidance on important information to pray about. It is also a good method for girl bosses who don’t have enough time on their hands but still want to get closer to God and his purpose for them.
Therefore, you could listen to a prayer podcast as you drive to work or when you workout and then quickly start bullet journaling a few points in your notebook.

You can either:

16. Write praises and adoration prayers to God
It is such an important thing to praise and adore the presence of God in your life. In the world of me me me! this is a new way to remind you to take time to acknowledge his mighty presence.
17. Journal through sermon teachings and notes
In different sections of your prayer journal, you could go deeper into your most favorite sermon notes and reflect on the preachers’ teachings.
