1. Find the root cause of the problem
In order to overcome your challenges, you have to dive deep down in your heart to find out the root cause of the problem.
This is because sometimes you might ignore one small challenge, which causes a negative ripple effect to every other aspect of your life. And before you know it, life becomes unbearable.
So, to find the root cause of the problem, you have to ask yourself effective questions, such as:
- Why I’m I experiencing this challenge?
- How did I get myself here?
- What influenced this problem to become a challenge in my life?
- How long have I been struggling with this problem?
- Who I’m I affecting as a result of this obstacle?
Also, remember to ask yourself why at least 5 times to get a deeper answer and understanding to these questions.
2. Be in your feelings
This is such an unpopular opinion, but I believe in order to overcome your challenges, you have to go through the entire process of healing, including being 100% in your feelings.
Being completely honest with yourself on how your struggles are making you feel, will help you face it by seeing it for what it is. No sugar coating and heck no to toxic positivity.
So, yes, go ahead and host a big pity party. Get yourself some wine, cry about it, hide under the sheets, complain, journal everything, ask God why, and be real at the moment. Just go through the natural emotions.
But, the catch is, to overcome your struggles, don’t let the pity party last too long. At some point, you have to get up on your feet and get ready to fight the obstacles.
3. Read testimonies of people who overcame challenges
An interesting thing, there is nothing new in this world. As a matter of fact, whatever challenges you are trying to overcome, someone else in this world has probably gone through them.
And this is surely a blessing in disguise. Not saying, that it is good for people to go through obstacles, but the testimonies of the ones who have overcome them, are a blessing to the people struggling.
Yes, how your challenges make you feel cannot be compared to anyone else’s. But you can find some sort of encouragement and relief by listening and reading advice from people who have recovered from similar struggles.
So, be open-minded to other people’s stories, opinions, and advice on how to overcome similar challenges.
4. Figure out a solution to overcome your challenges
No matter how big the challenges you’re going through are, find a solution to overcome them. We all know the saying, “where there is a will, there is a way.”
Regardless of your obstacles, if you are determined and motivated to overcome them, you will find a way.
So, do your research and find a solution to your struggles one by one, starting with the least daunting.
5. Create a plan and set goals
Now that you have figured out a solution to overcome your challenges, create a strategic plan and set goals to accomplish them one by one.
One of my most favorite plans is the 6 month leveling up strategy. This process allows you to set realistic goals to get yourself out of a bad situation in 6 months.
For example, if you are in dire need of a career change, 6 months allows you to intentionally gain a new skill, freshen up your resume, and job hunt without the pressure.
And also, the timeline seems quite reasonable which gives you the hope for overcoming struggles and not quitting your job without a plan.
So, if you’re wondering how to set goals that you can actually achieve, you can read my blog post here.
6. Ask for help and accept support
You cannot fail to admit that one of the reasons that you feel stuck with overcoming your challenges, is because you don’t want to ask for help. I am definitely raising my hand because this is definitely me too.
Why is asking for help and communicating so difficult? Lol! Not even kidding, I need therapy on this one.
But I know the main reason why it’s a struggle to ask for help is that you might be:
- Scared of I told you so.
- Fearful of people judging and laughing at you.
- Embarassed that some people might not see you the same way.
- Percieved as a failure.
- Looked down upon.
- Afraid of owing anything to anyone.
And so on and so forth. There are so many reasons why you might not feel comfortable asking for help. I don’t blame you. But, you have to realize, that you cannot bear this baggage alone.
Just be cautious of who you are asking for help. There are people with honestly good intentions and ready to offer help. Please accept the support.
And also, if you are struggling don’t be embarrassed to go to therapy in order to overcome your obstacles.
7. Recognize patterns
Not to pressure you or anything, but going through the stress of overcoming your challenges, you have to make sure you don’t fall into the same pit again. I mean if it’s only an obstacle you can control.
So, recognize the patterns that led you to your struggles so that you can avoid and not repeat them.
And also, figure out a life plan on how to overcome your obstacles if they happen to catch you by surprise again. Make it your intention to learn from your challenges.
8. Focus on the bigger picture and don’t give up
Even if overcoming your challenges might feel like a huge mountain, don’t give up on yourself. You will most certainly come through it victoriously. Yes, it may take time and effort but you will overcome your struggles.
Just focus on the bigger picture and work on it one step at a time. Your breakthrough will come one day and you will be able to help another person going through struggles by sharing your testimony. Just believe in it.
One way to manifest a solution to your struggles is by starting a prayer journal. You can write down in your journal your journey to overcoming challenges in life.
For example, you can write down your prayer requests to God, and check off the answered prayers. You will soon learn that you’re making progress one season at a time.
Here’s how to start a prayer journal.
9. Maintain a positive and abundance mindset
Lastly, you should try to maintain a positive and abundant mindset to overcome your challenges. Even if you’re not seeing immediate results, you have to keep moving forward.
So, prepare yourself to have armor to protect your mindest regardless of any negativity.
For example:

- Listen to motivational speakers and preachers.
