This post is for girl bosses who work during the day and want to establish a perfect daily morning routine that will motivate them to be more productive and achieve their goals. (Take Quiz: Are you a morning person or night person)
Being a morning person, I found that my days are more active, happier, and fulfilling when I was intentional about my morning routine. For a long time, I struggled with establishing a consistent and realistic morning routine that would help me be more productive every day.
My Morning Routine Struggles
Looking at my life closely, I realized that there are days that I am ready and excited to tackle the day. Whereas, on other days, I feel like hiding under the sheets. Of which this is super NORMAL because no one is a superwoman. However, I 100% hate being lazy and accomplishing absolutely nothing. Mostly this is because once I allowed myself to be lazy, it took insane effort to come out of that streak. Therefore, I created a morning routine that would help me get out of the laziness streak as quickly as possible.
If that’s you too, here are my daily morning routine tips to help you be successful every day.
The Benefits Of A Morning Routine
Whether you’re a night person or a morning person, as long as you’re productive that’s all that matters, right? It really doesn’t matter what time you wake up, right? Errr! I choose to disagree simply because I am completely biased. I am a morning person and I would never want to change that in a million years. Anyway, we all know that early bird vs. a night owl is such a controversial topic. Therefore, speaking from a biased perspective about that will absolutely help nobody. Because there’s is really no right or wrong way to do life. However, I think convincing you of the importance of a daily morning routine is more beneficial. Here are the 3 major benefits of a morning routine
1. Less chaos and more structure in your day.
Morning people have more control and time to structure their day. Therefore, boosting your productivity, reducing stress, being optimistic, and being happier in general.
2. Healthier Version Of Yourself

People who wake up early in the morning every day are more inclined to make healthier choices. This is because they tend to get enough sleep, have boosted energy to work out, make healthy breakfast choices, and have alone time to meditate. 3. Advantage over your competitors
Everyone has heard the saying, “the early bird catches the worm.” Well, to some extent, this saying is true. Morning people tend to be more successful in business and investing because they get the scoop before everyone else. For example, if you are a content creator, you can have your posts ready early in the morning to entertain the night owls right when they wake up. While they were sleeping in, you are making money moves.

1. My morning routine starts with a successful night routine
Believe it or not, every successful morning routine starts with an intentional night routine. This is because when you do some preparation the day before, you will have less to do in the morning. A successful daily morning routine tip, start planning your next day outfits, breakfast, and lunch meal prep before bed. Don’t waste your precious morning time doing these unpleasant tasks. In addition, people are highly active in the morning. Therefore, you can use that time to be efficient doing a few productive activities that would move you forward in life. Rather than mindless tasks such as meal prep.

2. Wake up at the same time in the morning daily
To establish a successful daily morning routine, you have to be consistent with the time you sleep and the time you wake up in the morning. In addition, from research, it takes approximately 66 days to form a habit. Therefore, for a start, in the next 30 days, try to be consistent with your sleep and morning schedule. Also, instead of using your phone, get an alarm clock to help you wake up the best way. (Read: Why You Should Never Use Your Smartphone as an Alarm Clock)

What about the weekends? While it is fun to party with friends and have a good time every weekend, you also have to understand that in your upper 20s and early 30s, it is the most crucial time to build yourself up for success. So in my perspective, I would rather wake up early to meet with a friend for brunch and mimosas instead of partying every weekend till dawn. Mostly this is because I know what I want in life, and I prefer to use my time wisely. While it’s okay to wild out once in a while, Hey, I do! I also believe that what we do with our time dictates whether we will make it or not. As my preference, I prefer to make sacrifices now to enjoy my future freedom.
3. Make your bed in the morning
It is the atomic habits that set you up for a successful daily morning routine and day. I noticed that I felt demotivated and lazy on the days I didn’t make my bed first thing in the morning. However, the days I made my bed in the morning, I felt organized, proud and confident to tackle the day. Making your bed does not take more than 5 minutes of your day, then why not do it? Also, making your bed every morning promotes healthy habits such as cleanliness and organization. Thus, you will find yourself washing and changing your beddings often. Which is very beneficial to your skin and general health. Nevertheless, you’ll be inspired to go to bed early and get quality sleep with an organized, clean, and comfortable bed.

4. Drink water
Just a tip, there is a ton of benefits to starting your daily morning routine by drinking a glass of water. Personally, for about two years, I started my day by having a cup of coffee because it boosted my energy. However, I realized that my body started becoming dependant on coffee to function. If I didn’t drink a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, I would experience excruciating headaches the rest of the day. Or else, if I slept past my morning alarm, I would wake up with headaches and exhaustion. Honestly, being a morning person, this habit affected my mood and productivity. Therefore, I decided to retrain myself in a different way that will set me up for success. And guess what! All along, the best habit was starting my morning routine with a simple cup of water.

In all honesty, according to scientific articles, it does not necessarily matter when you drink your water as long as you’re hydrated. (Read: Should You Drink Water First Thing in the Morning?)
However, in my perspective, I believe that drinking water in the morning personally will boost your energy, help you meet your hydration goals, and feel healthier. (Read: This Is the Best Time to Drink Coffee, Scientists Say)
Here are the 3 benefits of starting your morning routine with a cup of water:
- Essential Hydration – Your body is usually dehydrated after sleeping for hours without water. Drinking water first thing in the morning will help you feel refreshed, boost your brain activity, balance your body fluids, improve gut health, and meet your hydration goals.
- Kickstart Metabolism – Water is an essential part of a fast metabolism. In addition, drinking water first thing in the morning makes you feel fuller. Therefore, you will tend to eat less and be healthier.
- Glowing Skin – If you want to keep looking younger like fine wine, then why not start your morning routine with a simple effort?

5. Start your morning with motivation
If you can’t act on any of the other morning routine tips I’ve recommended, then do this one only. I don’t care what time you wake up or start your day but get in the habit of starting your morning with daily motivation. What you see or listen to the first thing after you wake up dictates your mood and your whole day.

I realized this was true when I was studying accounting at the university years ago. One semester, I dedicated myself to watching a motivational video first thing every morning, and best believe I got a GPA of 3.5 that semester. Well, getting a high GPA is not that easy, especially with how difficult accounting courses are. Trust Me!
Therefore, if you want to change your life and become the best version of yourself, start your morning with relatable motivation from books, podcasts, motivational videos, reading the bible, watching preaching, etc.
6. Daily Morning Journal and planner
To be 100% honest, journaling is one of the daily morning routines that I have to learn to be consistent in. Sometimes I do remember to journal, whereas other times just never happens. But I know that there are a ton of benefits of writing in your morning journal and planner. (Read What’s All This About Journaling?)

3 Benefits of a morning journal and planning.
- You start your day with gratitude and count the blessings you already have, leading to a positive mindset.
- Be aligned with your why and intentions for what you do.
- Declutter your mind by focusing only on the most important goals of the day, thus enhancing productivity.
In addition, I’ve found out that journaling helps you see how far you have come from in terms of growth, accomplishments, business, and life in general. With having a journal, you can recount the steps you took to succeed and know when you are ready to set new goals to help you level up.
Therefore, I encourage you and me to start writing a gratitude journal in the morning and three reasonable goals we would wish to accomplish every day. (Read: 5 Powerful Benefits Of Journaling As Part of Your Morning Routine)
7. Stretch/ walk/ workout
It is essential to start your day by doing a quick morning routine workout. Whether it is a simple stretch, yoga, walk, a little run, or a full-blown exercise, be intentional about setting a specific time for it. There is a ton of benefits to doing a morning workout routine rather than an evening workout routine. I usually do mini-workouts throughout the day, such as a walk in the mornings and a run/ bike ride in the evenings. However, having a desk job, getting older and stiffer, I think adding a morning stretching workout routine is essential. Haha! Do you feel the same way?
3 Benefits of a morning workout routine
- You are most likely to complete a workout due to fewer distractions such as tv, phone calls, messages, etc.
- You have more energy to work out since you just woke up, are focused, and are ready to tackle the day.
- Increased overall mood and productivity throughout the day.

8. Morning coffee & breakfast
Yes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. At least that’s what I think, haha! As you may want to start your day with a piece of cake or donut, I challenge you to make healthier breakfast choices. And that’s where the morning routine and night preparation come in. When you plan your meals ahead of time, you tend to make healthier choices. In addition, when you meal prep the night before, this daunting task becomes easy to accomplish in the morning. Therefore, have a morning coffee/ tea and a healthy breakfast to fuel your energy throughout the day. (Read: 60 Healthy Breakfast Ideas)

3 Benefits of a morning breakfast
- Meet the daily intake of essential nutrients.
- Boost energy levels and productivity during the day.
- Boosts brain power and your focus to help you be productive throughout the day.

9. Do Little Work To Move Your Hustle Forward
Dedicate part of your morning to do a little bit of work to move your hustle forward. Be it creating your Instagram stories for the day, replying to DMs, creating an outline for your blog, reaching out to a brand, thinking of blog ideas, etc. To transition your creative hustle to a full-time gig, you have to find time for it. How about a time that you are most creative, energized, and focused? (Read: HOW TO FIND THE TIME AND ENERGY TO SIDE HUSTLE)

10. Get ready for the day
Last morning routine tip: Whether you work from home or in the office, take the time to get ready for the day in the morning. It doesn’t necessarily mean to glam up and put on makeup every day. However, it is the little things that count. Make sure to shower or freshen up, put on deodorant, your favorite perfume, brush your teeth, etc. Moreover, dress up for workdays and wear something presentable on weekends, for example, a clean athleisure outfit for errand days. To be productive, make it a habit of not staying in your pajamas the whole day unless you’re sick or on intentional lazy days.
3 Benefits of dressing up in the morning

- Dressing up empowers you to be an admirable confident woman and have a positive mindset because you feel beautiful.
- Women who dress up are mostly respected at work, at the store, and in life in general because they look kempt and approachable. In addition, they are most likely to network and make connections with people because they have the confidence to put their heads high and articulate themselves. For example, I have realized the days I look ragged, I am disrespected and looked down upon in public. However, the days I dress up a little (even just athleisure), I get compliments, good customer service, and make connections with other women. For example, a good conversation with people usually sparks from wondering where I got my outfit or hair done.
- Dressing up every morning helps you maintain a morning routine and be productive because you start your day by checking off something on your to-do list.
In summary, make it a point to wear fresh clothes every day. Moreover, planning your outfits the night before might help you notice faulty elements in your work clothes. For example, you may find out that your cardigan has holes on the elbows, your pant has a stain, your wig needs to be fixed, etc. Trust me, all these have happened to me before haha!
